Admit it, everybody loves summer time! The sunlight is warm, welcoming and makes any outdoor activity much more fun. Unfortunately, sun exposure causes wrinkles, age spots and loose skin. Soaking up too much sun accelerates the aging process and increases the risk of developing skin cancer.

Our September Specials include treatments focused on targeting any sun damage you may have incurred during the summer. Each treatment utilizes formulas that reverse the effects of sun exposure to bring your skin back to life. Contact us today to find out more and read below to find out more about the negative effects of sun exposure so you can protect yourself.

When the skin is exposed to sunlight, the cells produce Vitamin D, which is important for normal bone growth. Within the epidermal layer, the cells contain melanin, giving the skin its color. Melanin protects the skin from the sun's ultraviolet rays, which burns the skin and reduces elasticity. Too much exposure can cause a person to age prematurely.

When a person lays out in the sun for an extended time the sunlight causes the skin to produce more melanin, creating a darker appearance. Once the tan fades, the cells move towards the surface of the skin, where they eventually fall off. Extreme exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn. The ultraviolet rays penetrate the outer layers of the skin and pass into the deeper layers of the skin. Among the lower levels of the skin, the ultraviolet ray’s penetration can damage and kill skin cells. If you don't have a lot of melanin in your skin, you'll sun burn much easier and damage your skin cells.

Regular, prolonged exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays causes serious damage over the years and is the main cause of skin cancer. Create a routine for examining your skin for any suspicious growths or changes.
