The Ideal Protein Program is currently one of the most popular diet programs on the market—and for good reason! The medically developed program is a weight loss solution designed to help people lose fat without losing muscle mass. Below we’ve detailed what you can expect from each phase of the program so you can prepare for serious weight loss.

Phase I: Followed Until Weight Loss Goals Are Met

During this phase of the program, you’ll eat an Ideal Protein Breakfast, along with an Ideal Protein Lunch with two cups of veggie. For dinner, you’re required to prepare an eight-ounce portion of real protein, two cups of veggies and an Ideal Protein Snack. You’ll be required to take one vitamin supplement a day to ensure you’re reaching nutritional guidelines.

Phase II: Two Weeks

For Phase II of the program, you’ll eat the same food as phase one, but now you can prepare your own lunch. The meal must consist of a seven-ounce portion of real protein, along with two cups of select veggies. During this phase, your dinner will be the same as lunch, however you’re allowed to eat different types of protein or veggies.

Phase III: Two Weeks

During this phase, lunch and dinner are the same as phase two, but now breakfast must consist of fruit (<20g Carbs), grains (<30g Carbs), and dairy (<120 kCal) to form a 400 to 500 calorie breakfast. The third phase of the diet is designed to slowly increase your caloric intake to maintenance level.

Phase IV: For Life

The final phase of the program is designed to teach you how to balance carbs with proteins and fats in your daily diet. The phases focuses on ensuring you don’t regain the weight.

What Should I Expect?

Ideal Protein forces most people to radically change their diet. About 30 percent of Ideal Protein dieters report experiencing all the symptoms that come along with feeling hungry, including: headaches, fatigue, constipation and nausea. Within the first week, most dieters lose between three to seven pounds (primarily water weight). These initial results are typically the inspiration you’ll need to keep up with the plan. In the following weeks, you’ll begin to lose fat, and also see a drop in cholesterol and blood pressure.
